Derbyshire Chip Shops Using Beef Dripping

It's the classic British cuisine. No matter what you go for almost everybody loves heading into their local fish and chips shop once or twice (or thrice) a month and digging into whatever they fancy.

But what makes the perfect serving of the great British takeaway? The chips have to be golden on the outside, light and fluffy inside; the fish needs to be white, flaky and succulent with light and crisp batter - all with a sprinkling of salt and vinegar.

And with the price of fish and chips creeping up over the years, friendly service goes a long way, too. So, no matter what you tend to get when you go to your chippy, the 10 stores below will get it right for you.

The Cods Scallops

If you have to have your chips cooked in beef dripping go on a Monday. Otherwise the rest of the week they're cooked in the healthier alternative of vegetable oil.

One of the widest choices of fish and shellfish at a takeaway without a doubt - from seabass and monkfish to cockles, lobster and sashimi-grade yellowfin tuna.

And they've just introduced soft whipped ice cream cones - what's not to love?

Reviewers say:

"Lovely staff, always pleasant and helpful and greet you with a smile when you walk in, great food with a very wide selection too. We go most weeks now."

Great food, super quick service - chips were cooked really nicely as was the battered sausage I had, we also ordered the battered halloumi which was light and crispy, couldn't have asked for better

This Nottingham institution couldn't be more different from the chic French cabaret with the same name. The Parisian home of the can-can might put on spectacular shows but then again they don't serve a tray of haddock and chips with mushy peas.

A presence in the city centre for 40-odd years, it must be doing something right.

"After a day's cricket at Trent Bridge, I walked into town and got a bag of chips from my favourite chippy before my train home. The chip shop's near the station so if anyone's waiting for a train and hungry I can recommend Carringtons without hesitation."
